ASSIGNMENTS FOR 02/24/11

Scott: Start filling out our report outlines. Let me know if you need help with anything, you know what we've been doing so it should be fairly easy. Also with that start on the distillation and flash specifications and know what we need to calculate everything. Turbochargers, temperatures, pressures etc. Find distillation columns that separate Methanol reactor products and find their reflux ratios, pressures, temperatures, products, feeds etc.

Priya: Find out about economics of the equipment we need. Find out the Critical Pressures and Temperatures for the inlet and outlet of our reactor. We are operating at around 1200 psi and 250 C. Whatever source you find let me know what temperature pressure they use.

Sukh+Brian: Find reactor data. I want the reactants going in, the reaction conditions, selectivity, conversions, products coming out. For now don't worry that much about recycle and pruge. Lets try to get the initial and final products and we'll go from there.

Guys I will check with you on Friday and over the weekend. I want these results by Monday. Please have some real data, I dont want you guys to cite papers or patents. Find me numbers.

ASSIGNMENTS FOR 03/21/11

What do we need to get done:

Wiki upgrade
CO2 removal
pressure drops
Report
Sizing
PFD
Process Control
Economics

Brian: Work on the report, Jerry palmer put up a good format, we started one so just work on that. Also find pressure drops for all the equipment we're working with. You know the operating conditions for everything so get started, by the time we're done with sizing I want you to be really familiar with how to plug in those numbers and get the pressure drops.

Sukh: Upload everything that we know about our process on the wiki...
For example for the results, put the latest aspen file up and explain what the numbers mean. (we'll upload it)
For specific designs put every little thing we know, catalyst, reactors, distillation columns, pressure etc
Find out how to remove CO2 from our process utilizing Selexol(Absorption/Stripping)

Priya: More economics, find solid sources for your prices not just aspen. Work on the economics for the report, your part should be ready to go by this meeting.

Scott+Daniyal: Sizing, PFD, Process Control and everything else...

Each of these tasks must be completed by Friday but I want a status report on Wednesday to ensure that we are on task(please don't tell me: "oh I looked up some papers, I am working on it etc"). I want real proof that you put some time into this, we do not have a lot of time left guys we need to switch to a high gear. If these are not completed by the due date it will adversely effect your percentage contribution.

Assignments for 04/01/11

Priya: Get economics for all the sized equipment done by Saturday night
Brian: Get a detailed block flow diagram(show each piece of equipment with the flow rates and enthalpies going in and out)
Sukh+Scott: Get the plant layout done by Sunday night
Daniyal: Finish everything else(PFD, Control Scheme, refine aspen, Initial control, and the rest of the calculations in excel)

Let's finish this stuff by Sunday night guys we have a lot of time!

Assignments for 04/20/2011

Priya: Write the economics part of the report. Include tables and description of each number. Your tables should be neater than you had before since this is a final draft. Make sure you have borders/lines whatever that are consistent with the whole report. You should have an equipment list (with utilities, catalyst, etc) as well and pricing for each of those equipments. This list will go in the economics section with the prices. Try to get up to 5 pages with all the tables, descriptions, and figures. Notice there are two sections, one says economics (just a basic description mostly words) but the economic evaluation should include ALL the tables and your calculations etc.

Brian: Take the list of equipment from Priya, then get on the ASPEN economic evaluator (I can show you how to do this if you need me to) and look at my control scheme to get ALLLLLL the little things we are using in the process. Then write a couple lines on each of the equipment. For example if theres a pump before the distillation column, just say this pump is going to be used to pump crude MEthanol into the distillation column. This should take at least 4 pages this should be a giant list with everything in it.

Scott: Write a detailed description of the plant layout. Make sure you cover every concept Adam Kanyuh talked about in his lecture.I will forward you all the parts and you can compile/proof read the report. Ill proof read it too

Sukh: Find out what we have to write about Distribution and End use issues review, constraints review, and applicable standards then finish these sections.

This is due tonight...
